Introducing

Keihin FCR restoration service

Specialist restoration for Keihin FCR carburettors, combining complete mechanical refurbishment with detailed cosmetic restoration.

More than just a clean.

Keihin FCR carburettors are exceptional pieces of engineering, but years of use can take their toll.

Our FCR Restoration Service is designed to bring them back to a condition worthy of the performance they were built to deliver.

Each carburettor is stripped, professionally cleaned and individually assessed before the restoration work begins. From worn throttle shafts and accelerator pump assemblies to damaged finishes, corroded hardware and tired rubber components, we address the details that make the difference.

What’s Included ?

Mechanical Restoration

Accelerator Pump Inspection/ restoration & Timing

Directly addressing a common FCR issue, the accelerator pump assembly is inspected and the pump timing is correctly set as part of the restoration.

Ultrasonic clean & Rebuild

Complete strip, ultrasonic cleaning and professional rebuild, with worn seals, gaskets and service components replaced where required. Every carburettor is checked throughout the rebuild and reassembled to ensure the complete bank is mechanically sound and ready for setup.

Diaphragm Inspection & replacement

Each diaphragm is carefully inspected for splits, hardening, pinholes and deterioration that can affect slide movement and engine response. Any diaphragm that has deteriorated beyond serviceable condition is replaced, ensuring smooth and consistent operation.

THROTTLE SHAFT RESTORATION

Throttle shafts and their associated components are inspected for wear, damage and excessive play. Where possible, worn components are restored and corrected to improve shaft operation, reduce unwanted movement and return the throttle mechanism to a precise, smooth action.

THROTTLE SLIDE INSPECTION & RESTORATION

The throttle slides, guides and associated components are carefully examined for wear, damage and signs of incorrect operation. Components are cleaned, restored or replaced where necessary to ensure the slides move freely and consistently throughout their full range of travel.

Hot Start & Choke Plunger Repair

Inspection and restoration of the hot start and choke plungers, with worn or deteriorated components replaced where required.

Thread & Idle Speed Screw Repair

Damaged or worn threads can affect adjustment and operation. We repair damaged threads, includingidle speed screw threads, restoring a smooth, positive adjustment and reliable operation of the mechanism.

Professional vapourblast finishing to restore the original aluminium castings to a clean, even satin finish, while retaining the character and detail of the original FCR components.

Brasswork Restoration

Brasswork Restoration

Individual brass components can be cleaned and polished to restore their natural finish, adding a sharp contrast against the freshly restored FCR carburettor body.

Mixture Screw Upgrade

Mixture Screw Upgrade

A choice of coloured thumb turn mixture screws provides a small but distinctive finishing detail for your FCR, combining improved adjustability with a more personalised appearance.

Stainless Hardware

Replace tired, corroded or marked original fasteners with a stainless steel hardware set, giving the finished FCR a cleaner appearance and a durable, corrosion resistant finish.

Coloured Hoses

Coloured Hoses

Replace tired original hoses with a choice of coloured alternatives, adding a subtle custom touch to the finished FCR.

From Tired To Restored

the inspection

Every FCR restoration begins with a meticulous inspection. Before a single screw is turned, each carburettor is carefully assessed to identify wear, corrosion, damaged components and any previous repairs or modifications. This allows us to build a clear restoration plan and ensure nothing is overlooked before the restoration begins.

the breakdown

Once the inspection is complete, the FCR is completely dismantled into their individual components. Every jet, spindle, linkage, seal and fitting is removed, allowing every internal passage and external surface to be accessed. This full strip-down ensures each component can be restored properly before reassembly.

the clean

With the FCR fully dismantled, every component undergoes an intensive cleaning process using professional ultrasonic equipment. Years of old fuel deposits, varnish, oxidation and contamination are removed from both internal fuel passages and external surfaces. Components are then carefully hand-finished where required, ensuring every part is prepared for the next stage of the FCR restoration.

the vapourblast

The carburettor bodies are professionally vapour blasted to restore their original factory appearance. Unlike abrasive blasting methods, vapour blasting cleans the aluminium while preserving the integrity of the surface, leaving behind either a smooth satin or matt finish, depending on the original alloy used by the manufacturer. The result is a clean, uniform appearance that closely reflects how the FCR would have looked when they first left the factory.

the rebuild

Once every component has been restored, the carburettors are rebuilt using new seals throughout, along with fresh nuts and bolts (JIS & HEX options available), replacement hoses, vacuum caps and any other service items required. Corrosion is removed from reusable components, while polishing and refinishing are carried out where necessary to achieve a finish worthy of the Showroom Package. Every component is assembled with the same care and precision as the restoration itself, ensuring the finished carburettors not only perform as they should but look exceptional too.

the set-up

Before leaving our workshop, every FCR is carefully set up to ensure it is ready for installation. Float heights are accurately adjusted to specification, the carburettors are bench synchronised to provide a balanced starting point, and each assembly is bench tested to check for air and fuel leaks. Every stage is completed with accuracy and attention to detail, giving you complete confidence before the carburettors are returned.

The journey home

Once the restoration is complete, your FCR carburettors are carefully prepared for their return journey. Every restored component and finished surface is protected during packaging, with the carburettors securely packed to prevent movement or damage in transit.

Your FCRs are then returned using Royal Mail Special Delivery 24, ready to be refitted to the motorcycle. The restoration is complete, the carburettors are properly set up and every detail has been taken care of before they leave our workshop.

Keihin FCR Carburettor Restoration

The Carb Shack specialises in the restoration, rebuilding and repair of Keihin FCR carburettors fitted to performance motorcycles, motocross bikes, enduro machines and other applications. Our FCR restoration service is designed for carburettors that require more than a standard clean and rebuild, combining detailed mechanical inspection with professional restoration of the components and castings.

A Keihin FCR carburettor rebuild can involve much more than replacing seals and cleaning the jets. FCR carburettors incorporate accelerator pump systems, throttle linkages, slides, hot start and choke mechanisms, mixture screws and a number of small components that can suffer from wear, corrosion or previous repairs. Each carburettor is assessed individually so that the work carried out is appropriate to its condition.

Our FCR restoration service can include accelerator pump inspection, diaphragm replacement, accelerator pump timing, throttle linkage and slide restoration, thread repairs, hot start and choke plunger work, vapourblasting, brass component polishing and replacement of worn components. Viton seals, new hoses and other replacement parts can also be fitted where required.

Whether you are looking for a Keihin FCR rebuild, FCR carburettor repair or a complete cosmetic and mechanical restoration, The Carb Shack provides a specialist service focused on returning these high-performance carburettors to a properly restored and professionally rebuilt condition.

We work with individual FCR carburettors and complete sets, with restoration tailored to the particular carburettor and application.
